Leslie "Gene" Hammond, age 80, of Fairview, died Friday, June 15, 2012 at UPMC Hamot after an extended illness. He was born July 6, 1931 in Lake City, Pa., a son of the late Frank L. and Helen L. Graves Hammond. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gene had worked for General Electric as a pipe fitter from 1965 to 1972, at B.F. Fields Moving and Storage as a driver and salesman from 1951 to 1996, and was a self employed grape grower in Westfield, N.Y. from 1971 to 1991. He enjoyed fishing and camping. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Nancy Hammond; a grandson, Brandon Hammond, one brother, Carl "Lee" Hammond and one sister, Audrey Clausen. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine A. Milano Hammond of Fairview; two sons, Jeffrey E. Hammond of Lake Worth, Fla. and Mark A. Hammond of Eastlake, Ohio; one daughter, Kathleen L. Seib and husband Mike of Erie; one brother, Raymond O. Hammond and wife Carolyn of Conneaut, Ohio; one sister, Eva Lou Johnston of Conneaut, Ohio and seven grandchildren, Brittane, Jared, Dylan, Logan and Olivia Hammond, Leslie Zellefrow and husband SSgt. Matthew and Corey Nelson. He is also survived three great-grandchildren, Alexia Hammond, Derek and Natalie Zellefrow and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, 2122 Raspberry Street, on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. and may attend a Memorial Service at WLD Ranch, 7351 Woolsey Rd., Girard, PA 16417 on Saturday, July 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in East Springfield Cemetery.
