Gene K. Voorhis, age 48, of Erie, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, July 8, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was born January 13, 1964 in Erie, the son of Lila J. Mourton Voorhis and the late Harry Voorhis. Gene was a graduate of the former Tech Memorial High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Afghanistan and Guatemala, and retired from the Army after 25 years of service. Gene had recently been employed as an auto mechanic by Porreco Motors and the National Club, where he was also a member. He enjoyed football, and bowling at the Siebenbuerger Club and Rolling Meadows Bowling Lanes. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vida and Shirlee Voorhis; two brothers, Chester and Harry Voorhis; and a nephew, Brandon Voorhis. Besides his mother, Gene is survived by his wife of seven years, Debbie S. Weaver Voorhis; two sisters, Lynn Voorhis and Margaret Voorhis-Lawrence (Tom); two brothers, Patrick Voorhis (Carrie) and Arthur Voorhis all of Erie; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th Street, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors by American Legion Carl Neff Post #571 will follow at Erie Cemetery.
