Rita M. Fasenmyer Caldwell Obituary
Rita M. Fasenmyer Caldwell, age 93, of Erie passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at St. Mary's Home East surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 24, 1919 in Lucinda, Pa. the daughter of the late James and Martina Schill Fasenmyer. A longtime resident of Erie, Rita was retired as a Nurse's Aide from the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she volunteered with their food pantry and was the last surviving member of the "Kitchen Biddies" She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed making ceramics. Rita also was an Associate with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern PA and belonged to American Legion Post 771. Because of her involvement with her church and the community, she was Knighted a Lady of St. Patrick in 1987. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Caldwell; a sister, Doris Fry; a brother, Leroy Fasenmyer, and a great-grandson, Eric Hartwell. Rita is the mother of Renee Calabrese of Erie; Patricia Cropek of Rochester, N.Y.; Carol Hartwell and her husband Bill of Troy, Mich.; Jim Caldwell and his wife Karen of Erie and Terry Caldwell and his fiancé, Patricia Brown of Erie. She is the sister of Henry (Bud) Fasenmyer and his wife Josephine of Warren, Pa.; Bernard Fasenmyer and his wife Shirley of Warren, Pa.; Jean Black of Seneca, Pa. and Judy Buckholtz and her husband Fred of Seneca, Pa. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Friday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Further visitation Saturday in St. Mary's Home East Chapel (Reed St. entrance) from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sister Mary Pascal Gray Food Pantry at St. Patrick Church, 130 E.4th St., Erie, PA 16507.
