Dewey Merle Morningstar, 78, of Sugar Grove, Pa., passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. Dewey was born February 12, 1934 in Dudley, Pa., a son of the late Cloyd Si Morningstar and Amy May (Clark) Morningstar. Dewey worked as a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #66 for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1995. He loved trips to the Kinzua Dam where he had spent several years working on the construction. He was an active member of the NRA, as well as an avid sportsman. He was always ready for hunting season. He is a member of the SG United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years with the SG Volunteer Fire Department. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his family, watching Westerns, especially with John Wayne, fishing trips to Canada with family, hunting with his sons, trains, NASCAR, and he loved his peanut butter. He was an honorable man who will be sadly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne (Wilson), whom he married July 3, 1965 at Chautauqua Lake, sons; Dewey J. Morningstar of Sugar Grove, Pa., Duane (Paula) Morningstar of Sugar Grove, Pa., Scott (Michele) Morningstar of Union City, Pa., Dean (Pam) Morningstar of Lander, Pa. and daughter Amy Morningstar of Sugar Grove, Pa. He is also survived by a brother, Edward William (Bill) Morningstar of Pittsburgh, Pa. and by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd & Amy Morningstar, his sister, Shirley Morningstar Wadsworth, his daughter, Debbie Morningstar Tobias, and a granddaughter, Shannon Tobias. Per Dewey's request, there will be no funeral or visitation services. Memorials can be made to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 3 Race Street, Sugar Grove, Pa. The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St, in Youngsville, have been entrusted with all arrangements. Condolences to the family may be made at www.nelsonfuneralhome.net.
