Lizzie Mae Harden Thomas Gaines, age 90, of Erie went home to her Lord Friday, October 5, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 19, 1921 in Laurel, Miss., she resided there until she moved to Erie at age 16. She graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie. She worked at W.T. Grant Co. and as a domestic worker. She was active in church and attended regularly among several different churches. Lizzie Mae was known for and always recited poetry at church functions. She was actively engaged in GEGAC programs and was part of the volunteer programs for Harbor Homes and loved spending time with her family. Lizzie Mae was preceded in death by her husband Robert Louis Gaines (1963), parents Daisey Harden Bonner (1975) and Thomas Bonner (1971), son William Larry Thomas (1965) and grandson Arthur Lee Gaines (2010). She is survived by her children, Patricia Houston of Pelham, N.Y. ; Walter Thomas, III and Zechariah (Dora) Gaines both of Erie; Loretta Gaines of San Francisco, Calif. and Roberta (Art Gamble) Gaines of Erie; 30 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many nurses and staff at Asera Care Hospice and Presque Isle Nursing and Rehabilitation that provided care to Lizzie Mae and attended her needs. Friends are invited to call at the Miracle Temple, 245 East 10th Street, Erie, 16503, on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the Homegoing at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Harry Euell and Rev.
