Jack Merritt, 84, of Albion, passed away Monday, October 08, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born April 1, 1928 in Wellsburg, Pa., son of the late William and Bessie (Miller) Merritt. Jack graduated from Albion High School and retired from Erie Sand & Gravel. He was a member of the Stateline United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Albion Moose Club and a lifelong member of Bear Trap Camp. He enjoyed playing solitaire, gardening, sitting on his deck watching for deer, watching Penn State football, watching Northwestern football, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Merritt, on February 25, 2008, a son, Jack Merritt II, a son-in-law, Robert Wright Jr., four brothers, William, Harold "Boots", Floyd and Charles Merritt, five sisters, Marjorie Nyberg, Barbara Kelly, Virginia Ebert, Lois Merritt and Laura Merritt. Jack is survived by seven children, Dave Merritt and his wife, Phyllis, of Albion, Judy Lund and her husband, Ken, of Edinboro, Diane Wright of Albion, Pat Burt of Albion, Kim Fedinetz and her husband, John, of Springboro, Ronald "Bud" Merritt and his wife, Ewa, of Albion, Stacy Rhoades of Albion, a daughter-in-law, Theresa Merritt Teed of Girard, a sister, Carolyn Hough and her husband, Donald, of Albion, 27 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be private by the family.
