Leoda Fern Bettes, age 98, of Loveland, Colorado, formerly of Erie, passed away Monday, December 14, 2012. She was born July 15, 1914 in Greensboro, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Mary Irwin of East Springfield, Pa. Leoda worked for GTE in San Angelo, Texas for 18 years before retiring in 1975. She enjoyed sewing, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. Leoda was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Leoda was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald M. Bettes and ten of her 11 sisters and brothers. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Crawford of North East, Pa.; her daughters, Maryleah Phillips of Loveland, Colo. and Naomi Lord of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Julie Phillips and Gina Hamilton of Loveland, Colo., Kurt Phillips of Kalispell, Mont., Scott Lord of Milton, Ky. and Dr. Jennifer Lord of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Corey, Colin, Hayden, Wesley and Chase; two great-great-grandchildren, Marcus and Brook; many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, on Saturday, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Christian School, 1781 West 38th St., Erie, PA 16508.
