Laura Pier Giacobello, 69 of Girard passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Erie. Laura was born in Erie on September 10, 1943, a daughter of the late Harold G. "Bud" and Elsie Fiesler Pier. She graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School. After graduation, she became a homemaker and helped care for the children in her neighborhood. She worked at Dominick's Pizza Shop and was then employed at the Girard Dinor as a cook from 1984 until the present. Laura was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Girard and the A.F. Dobler Hose Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, reading mysteries and romance novels, and loved square dancing with her husband, Nick. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dominick S. "Nick" Giacobello, whom she married on December 19, 1982 in Fairview; her first husband James Thom; and a stepdaughter, Linda Giacobello Aquillano. She is survived by her son, Jon E. Thom and his wife Mary Beth of Tenino, Wash; stepdaughter, Mary Ann Luthringer and her husband Otto "Butch"; stepson, Frank Dominick Giacobello; stepson in law, Richard Aquillano, all of Erie; two brothers, Robert Pier and his wife Mary Jo of Lake City, and Harry Pier of Australia; three grandchildren, Courtney, Brittney and Whittney Thom; four step-grandchildren, Kimberly Aquillano, Danny Aquillano, Alicia Wieczorek and her husband, Randy, and Patrick Luthringer; three step-great-grandchildren, Logan, Gavin and Mason Wieczorek; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard.
