Gertrude A. Loper Obituary
Gertrude A. Loper, age 95, of Fairview Township, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at UPMC Hamot. Born September 23, 1917, in Erie, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Mach) Chervenka. Gertrude was a 1936 graduate of East High School, where she ran track. She was co-owner of Loper Furniture, until 1980, and was an avid flea market vender, until 2000. She was a member of the Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary, the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons (ATS) and TOPS. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. Loper, who died in 2002; two daughters, Janet Linda Work and Tracy L. Calabrese; two sisters, Anna Carson and Helen Dietrich; two brothers, Joseph and James Chervenka. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy A. Fischer, husband Paul; a son, Ralph D. Loper, wife Phyllis; a son-in-law, Donald Calabrese and a brother, Charles Chervenka, all of Erie. Five grandchildren, Mark Fischer, Carla Fischer Haase, April Loper, Shelly Loper Birdwell, husband Eric and Amy Work Harle, husband Fred; five great-grandchildren, Katie, Joe and Allison Fischer and Ava and Olivia Harle and many nieces and nephews also survive. Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Private services will be held, with burial in Waterford Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Regional Cancer Center, 2500 West 12th Street, Erie, PA 16505. Gertrude's family would like to thank the staff at Manchester Commons for their wonderful care.
