Gary Joseph Hampy, 47, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013. He was born on March 21, 1966 in Erie, Pa., to the late David and Diane VanDervoort Hampy. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Charlotte. Gary volunteered for Holy Triniti Catholic School, St. Luke's Catholic Church, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. His true passion was volunteering with the youth and coaching basketball and football. He was a religious education teacher for many years and owned Hampy Insurance Agency in Charlotte. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Hampy; and brother-in-law, Robert Marzka. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kirsten Roeback Hampy; children, Mitchell, Halle, and Matthew; sister, Sherry Frew and husband, Ben; sisters-in-law, Kimberly Danylko and husband, John, Adrienne Marzka, Cynthia Kuhn and husband, Donald, Jennifer Smith and husband, Edwin, Natalie Miller and husband, William; brothers-in-law, Hunter Roeback, Jason Roeback and wife, Jennifer, Dana Roeback and wife, Barbara, Desmond Roeback and wife, Laura; and numerous nieces and nephews.
