Mary Ann Spiegel, age 78, of Erie, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Mary's Home of Erie from complications of ALS or "Lou Gehrig's Disease". Born February 2nd, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Julius B. and Helen K. Schiller Spiegel. Mary Ann was a proud graduate of St. Joseph's School class of 1949 and the Villa Maria Academy class of 1953. She worked as a sales manager for Jay's Department Store and a secretary at the Dispatch Herald before working as a Manager for Sears where she worked for over 37 years. At Sears, she oversaw many departments encompassing the majority of the lower level at the Millcreek Mall store. While at Sears she was not only a manager of many people, but well respected and a friend to all. She forged many lifelong friendships with her fellow employees. Mary Ann was active with the Villa Alumni Association as well as the Erie, Pittsburgh, and national Sears Retiree's groups. She also volunteered for some time at the House of Healing and the Senior Citizen's Center. Besides her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joan E. Spiegel and a niece, Carol Ann Zuhusky as well as her loving dog, Bambi. Survivors include a sister, Kathleen M. Spiegel; a brother, James B. Spiegel, both of Erie; a niece, Suzanne Spiegel Helfert, husband Craig of Erie; a nephew-in-law, James Zuhusky of South Hampton, N.Y.; four great nephews, Alex Zuhusky, Ben Zuhusky, Joey Zuhusky, and Ryan James Helfert; a great niece, Faith Marie Helfert; dear friends, James Lowes, and Ruby Hallowell; and her dog, Max. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of a service at 12:15 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard followed by a Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Cathedral, 230 West 10th Street with Rev. Leo Gallina celebrating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to ALS research at the Cleveland Clinic through the Bright Side of the Road Foundation, P.O.
