Irene "Lillian" Alamenciak Hansen, 83, of Erie died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in Erie, PA on March 21, 1930 to the late Andrew and Victoria (Zielienewski) Alamenciak.
A 1948 graduate of St. Benedict Academy, she began her career as a sales clerk at Jordan's Department Store. She married the love of her life, Raymond Grant Hansen on May 9, 1953, and began her greatest achievement as a wife and mother. She loved church, St. Stanislaus, and was a lifelong member. She was a founding member, and past president of the St. Stan's Moms' Club (now the Women's Society). She loved crafting, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and miniature dollhouse construction, She contributed to the craft booth at St. Stan's Parish Day for many years.Irene enjoyed traveling with her family, short 2-3 day trips to begin, eventually stretching to Gettysburg, Williamsburg, Charleston, S.C., and even Walt Disney World. Irene and Ray owned several travel trailers, although they weren't on the road much. They preferred to spend weekend with friends at Family Affair Campground.After her children were grown, she worked as a teacher's assistant at St. Stanislaus, and finished her career as a sales clerk at Kraus' Department Store. Her husband Raymond, passed away October 19, 1994.
She is survived by two daughters; Susan Hansen and Mrs. Judith (Christopher) Bosner, a granddaughter, Kathryn Sue Bosner, a sister Joan (Alamenciak) Jersey, two nieces, Debra Wilson and Mrs. Janet (Ronnie) Tankersley, a godchild, Mrs. Eileen (William) Richter, many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, Inc., 459 East 12th Street, Erie PA 16503, on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church at 9:30 a.m.
