Roberta "Nicky" E. Nicholas Horwath, 63, of Millcreek Township, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at UPMC Hamot. She was born July 2, 1950, in Erie, Pa., daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Zerbe) Nicholas. She was a co-founder and secretery of Ace Viking Electric. She was a 1968 graduate of McDowell High School. She was a member of St. Ann's Church. Her previous civic activities included the PTA for Grandview Elementary School, J. S. Wilson School and McDowell High School. She was a member of the Brownies (Girl Scouts of America), the Blue Army Cadets (Religious) teaching in the Parochial School System and authored "Mary's Day," a religious play. She was also instrumental in re-establishing the Latin Rite Mass thru the Diocese of Erie (CPF) and was active in home schooling. For enjoyment she liked camping, gardening, bingo, traveling, theater, and gaming.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick S. Horwath in 2009; and a daughter, Mary Anne Horwath. Survivors include three sons, Joseph Horwath and wife, Melissa, Jeffrey Horwath, both of Erie, Ronald Horwath and wife, Kyra of San Francisco; two grandchildren, Cynthia and Jamie Horwath of Erie; a great-granddaughter, Cayleigh Stevenson of Erie; and two sisters, Ellen Hailwood and husband, Joe of Erie and Loretta Mangold of Tucson, Ariz.
Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, Inc., 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503 on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Casimir Church, 628 Hess Avenue, Erie, PA 16503.
