Larry Lovell Harden, 64, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born in Erie, February 2, 1949, son of Dorothy Penamon Harden-Byrd and the late Lovell "Big Pitch" Harden.
A lifelong resident of Erie, he was a 1967 graduate of Academy High School. He held various positions in industry, customer service, and social work. He most enjoyed working with youth. Larry was known, in his younger days, for his accomplishments as a little league baseball pitcher, and in his later years, as a shortstop and power hitter, during his softball days at Rodger Young Park.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife of many years, Shirley Stewart-Harden; a brother Kenneth Harden Sr.; paternal grandparents, Sandy (Elizabeth) Harden; his maternal grandparents, Carl and Minnie Ola Walls Penamon; his stepfather, Edward Byrd; five aunts, Margaret Penamon Hamilton Brown, Carolyn Penamon Faison, Ernestine Lyle, Lena Mae Forbes, and Jean Penamon Covington.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, two sons, Curtis Barney (Monica) of Pittsburgh and Sheldon Thomas (Shayla) of Lansing Mich.; a stepson Malo Stewart (Tanisha) of Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, Charles Jones of Covina, Calif., Jeffery Sandy Harden (Kidist) of Greenbelt, Md., and Ron Harden, of Erie; a sister, Linda Harden of Erie; stepbrother, Craig Byrd of Erie; two uncles Fredrick Brown of Erie and Charles Faison of Jamestown, N.Y.; lifelong friends, Greg Myers and Robert "Sib" Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends may call at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 East 5th Street, Erie, PA 16507, on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon. Rev. Anthony Harris will be officiating and Elder Sheldon Thomas will be eulogizing. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery. Funeral Services are by Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., Erie.
