George Emil Francis Kaufman, age 78, a lifelong resident of Erie, Pa., went to be with the Lord on February 12th, 2014, at St. Mary's Asbury Ridge. He was a devoted, loving husband, dedicated, supportive father and loyal friend. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church.
George was born May 26th, 1935, son of the late Henry Emil Kaufman and Kathryn Krause Kaufman.
He attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Cathedral Prep and was a graduate of Gannon College. After Gannon, he served in the Army
Reserves. He loved playing baseball for Cathedral Prep, Gannon College, and played in the Cleveland Indians Minor League Organization. He also played many years in the Glenwood League and City Rec. Slo Pitch. George was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and especially racquetball with his "Y" friends. He coached East High baseball and was an assistant track and football coach; he also coached football at Kanty Prep. With his family, George especially enjoyed camping at Evergreen Lake Campground, traveling across the country, and the many Christmases in Florida.
He was a member of the Elk's Lodge, Siebenbuerger Club, National Club, and Sacred Heart Usher's Club. He served as past president of the Cursillo Movement, and was a former Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church. After retirement, he and his wife spent 15 winters in Florida, where he made many new friends.
George is survived by: June Michaels Kaufman, his wife of 54 years, his son William E. Kaufman and his wife Debi, of Somerset, Pa., and daughters Kathy Rembold and her husband Jerry of Franklin, Pa., Judy Malcolm and her husband Bruce, and Christine Scoggins of Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren Gabe Rembold and his wife Kelly, Hannah, Jordan, Eden, Lily and Porter Rembold, Cory and Dale Kaufman, Jillian and Trent Dunn, and Casey Scoggins. George also has one great-grandchild, Aundraya Sibble.
The Kaufman family extends special thanks to family and friends for their cards, support and prayers. Also, special thanks to the staff and caregivers at St. Mary's, who took care of George.
Friends may call on Sunday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16502, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Monday at Our Lady of Peace Church, at 10 a.m. Send condolences to www.kloecker funeralhome.com
