Katherine Briggs Gowen, age 77, of Wesleyville, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at UPMC Hamot. She was born in Dunkirk, N.Y. on March 4, 1936, daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret Deutsch Briggs.

Katherine was a member of St. James R. C. Church. She was previously employed with Kelly Girls for the Nielsen Ratings. She bowled at East Erie Turners and volunteered with the Girl Scouts / Boy Scouts and the Wesleyville Senior Softball Team. Katherine was lovingly known as "Jonsie" to her family and friends.

She is survived by daughters, Sharon Shaffer (Nicholas), Patricia Comer (Daniel); sons, Jerry Gowen (Tina), Greg Gowen (Beth); brothers, Donald A. Briggs (Carolyn), John H. Briggs, James R. Briggs; sisters, Kareen I. Simmons (William), Martha M. Kloecker (Roman); ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, George; brothers Gerald Raeymacker, who died during the Korean Conflict, Robert J., William G, and Charles R. Briggs.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Monday at 12 noon, conducted by Rev.
