Anthony F. Heintzel, age 97, a resident of Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center in Erie, passed away Saturday, March 01, 2014, at UPMC Hamot. Born in Erie, January 16, 1917, he was a son of the late Michael and Justina (Graf) Heintzel.
Anthony graduated from Penn State Behrend, with a degree in engineering. He worked at Talon and Lovell prior to starting his career as an engineer, at Bucyrus Erie, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1980. Anthony was a member of various clubs, including Siebenbuerger, Maennerchor, Zukor, and East Erie Turners. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and oil painting. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and enjoyed playing pool. In later years, he enjoyed watching golf on television.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Leora E. (Sterrett) Heintzel, who passed away June 23, 2013; an infant son, Patrick Michael Heintzel; a sister, Annie and six brothers, Frank, Herman, George, Joseph, John, and Edward.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Birch, husband Alan, and Diane McCoy, both of Erie; two grandchildren, Nicole Babo, of Erie, and Anthony Babo and wife Amie, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two great grandchildren, Delaney and Caden Babo, of Colorado Springs, Colo. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 W. 26th St., Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Michael P. Ferrick, celebrating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery.
Anthony's family extends their gratitude to the staff at Sarah Reed for their excellent care.
