Roger Donald Skellie

Roger Donald Skellie, age 84, of North East, died peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Twinbrook Medical Center.

He was born on June 13, 1929, in Mina Corners, New York, to the late Bert and Ruth Cady Skellie.

Roger was formerly employed at several dairy farms in the Ripley and Mina Corners area, Peek'n Peak Resort, Comfort Inn, Keystone Foods, and was a self-employed lawn mower and snow remover in the North East community.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Joseph, North East American Legion Post 105, North East V.F.W. Post 4789, and the North East and Westfield Moose Lodges.

Roger was well known for his smile, wit, humor, and loved driving his tracker around North East.

Roger will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him . . . 10-4.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and James Skellie; sisters, Alice Tanner and Jean Kochanowski.

Roger will be sadly missed by his loving companion of 25 years, Edithe Whitman of North East; a daughter, Debbie Skellie Thomas of Jamestown; sisters, Joyce Johnson (Donald) of North East, Joan Hodge (Gene) of Clymer, and Rose Mead of Erie; stepchildren, Karen Kingman of Erie, Becky Mong (Richard) of North East, Steve Dolan (Cheryl) of East Springfield, Valarie Maloof (Frank) of North East, Virginia Peck (John) of North East, Roger Dolan (Tammy) of Erie, Julie Baldwin (George) of Centerville; also ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. David Kuchta. Interment will be in Union City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
