Ellen E. (Kreidinger) Bertone, age 86, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at her home. A lifetime resident of Erie, she was born on December 20, 1927, a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Demuling) Kreidinger.
Ellen was a graduate of Villa Maria High School and Villa Maria College with a B.S. degree in Nutrition. She had worked at General Nutrition Center and had also been the co-owner of the Darn Yarn Shoppe. She made every holiday special, baking fasnachts on Shrove Tuesday to ending the year providing the most wonderful Christmas celebrations for her family. Ellen also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Mary Ann Robison and a brother Jack Kreidinger.
She was a devoted wife and mother and will be dearly missed by her loving family which include her husband of 64 years, Ray Bertone; her seven children, Karen Streett (Joseph), Fairview; Thomas Bertone, Millcreek; Mary Nowak (James), Columbus, Ohio; Margaret Giannamore, Erie; Timothy Bertone, Erie; Daniel Bertone (Christine), Nashville, Tenn. and Jacqueline Bertone. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Adam Leslie (Katie), Seth Leslie, Keith Nowak, Kyle Nowak (Elaine), Erin Bertone, Rachel Bertone, Justin Giannamore, Nicholas Bertone, Sara (Laura) Streett and Timothy Street; great grandchildren Campbell and Sophie Leslie and Betsy and Mae Streett; her sister Jane Nies (Joseph), sisters in law Clementine Alo (Armand) and Norma Kreidinger, all of Erie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. George Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
