Ella Mae Emhoff Penberthy, age 96, of Erie, passed away at the Golden Living Center-Walnut Creek on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was born in DuBois, Pa., on May 23, 1917, a daughter of the late John and Naomi Crossman Emhoff.
Ella had been previously employed by the former Marx Toys, Kearsarge School, Elgin Electronics and Sears Dept. Store. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards and other games, and crocheting afghans.
Ella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John N. Penberthy, Sr.; one brother, Joe Emhoff and two sisters: Eileen Whitford and Donna Postlethwait.
Survivors include her four children: Donna Mroczkowski, James Helm (Pat), John Penberthy (Nanette) and Gene Penberthy (Nancy); 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Wanda Smith and Drucile Allen; two brothers: Jack Emhoff (Martha) and Elvin Emhoff (Dolores), and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m., and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Saturday at 10 a.m. Private interment will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
