Margaret E. Whitney, 89, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at St. Mary's Home East.

She was born on March 21, 1925, in Erie, daughter of the late Joseph J. and Julia M. (Vanyo) Hornyak.

She was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Church, and married Richard L. Whitney (deceased 1998) there, on June 30, 1951.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lorraine E. Whitney in 1964, her brothers, Joseph J. Hornyak, Jr. and Andrew Hornyak and sisters, Mildred Mihalik and Irene Poluha.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane E. Whitney of Erie and Joan L. Rightnour (David) of Cranberry Township, Pa.; son, Brian T. Whitney (Ann) of Vinton, Va.; sister, Alice Ester (Chuck) of Glendale, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Catherine Hornyak of Erie; grandchildren, Christopher (Lacie), Marcia, Jennifer, and Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP., Pine Ave. Branch, 845 East 38th St. on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and are invited to attend a prayer service at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at Holy Rosary Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Church or the Carmelite Monastery.
