Veronica Virginia Pelkowski Obituary

Veronica "Virginia" Pelkowski, age 94, of Erie, passed on peacefully, Thursday, March 27th, 2014, at UMPC Hamot. She was born October 24, 1919, in Erie, Pa., a daughter of the late Walter and Stephania (Zielinski) Lubelski.

She was a member of St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church and its Rosary Society and Senior Citizens Group. She was also a member of the Erie Apostolate of Divine Mercy of Saint Ann. Virginia had a green thumb and grew the most beautiful roses. She loved to bake and was known for "Virginia's sweet bread" and amazing pies. She was a season ticket holder for the Otters Hockey team, for many years, and watched all the NHL games on television. Most of all, she loved her family and her own home, where she lived for 75 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Frank" Pelkowski, on January 6th, 1988; brothers, Albert and Leonard Lubelski, sisters Dolores Smieciuch, Joan Kmiecik, and Josephine Campanelli, and a granddaughter, Sheila Ann Pelkowski.

Survivors include her daughter, Arlene Bebko of Apex, N.C., two sons, James Pelkowski and his wife Barbara of Chadds Ford, Pa., and Robert Pelkowski and his wife Cynthia of Erie; four grandchildren, Renee Bartle and husband Rob of Cary, N.C., John Pelkowski and wife Michele of West Chester, Pa., Jeffery Bebko and wife Lesli of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jennifer Pelkowski of Virginia Beach, Va.; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle and Danielle Bartle, Nicholas Bebko and Emma and Jack Pelkowski; sisters, Frances Mozdy, Marie Kuzmin and in-laws Rita Lubelski and Stan Kmiecik, all of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Mark G. Razanauskas Funeral Home, 701 East Ave., Monday, March 31st, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Tuesday April 1st at 10:30, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at Saint Casmir Catholic Church, 629 Hess Avenue, officiated by Reverend Joseph Gregorek. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Casmir Parish.
