Virginia (Knox) Sheeran, age 94, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, at UPMC Hamot. Born in Erie on October 3, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Homer R. and Berd L. (Detzel) Knox.
During WWII, she worked for the American Red Cross in Pittsburgh, and later was a supervisor at GTE for eighteen years, before retiring in 1982.
Virginia was a member of Saint Jude the Apostle Church, Saint Vincent Auxiliary, and for over twenty years, the Hamot Aid Society. In addition, she was a member and past president of the Woman's Club of Erie, and a lifelong member of the Erie Yacht Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, John R McGrane, Sr., and Donald E. Sheeran; and three sons, John R. McGrane, Jr., D. Knox McGrane, and John Sheeran.
Survivors include three daughters, Berd M. Weislogel, husband Greg, of Erie, Patricia K. McGrane, of Scranton, Pa., and Donna S. Major, husband Ken, of Harrodsburg, Ky.; a son, Thomas D. Sheeran, of Lantana, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Christin Giangreco, Shawn McGrane, Eric Weislogel, Molly Herr, Josh McGrane, Jilleryn Major, and Laura Sheeran; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 o'clock, at Saint Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 West 6th Street. Private burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
