William Paul Kennedy Sr., 80, of Fairview, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born June 28, 1933 in Port Matilda, Pa., a son of the late LeRoy E. and Hazel M. (Fink) Kennedy Sr.

Bill was raised and educated in the Erie area, attending Academy High School. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he volunteered to be a Paratrooper in the Airborne Forces. He received his "Jump Wings" at Ft. Benning, Ga. and served during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the military in 1955 he returned to the Erie area and worked at Parker White Metals; later becoming a truck driver, where he was most recently employed by Foam Fabricators, retiring in 2006.

He was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, the VFW Post #470, a 40 & 8 member and life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed going to hunting camp with his friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd LeRoy Kennedy and grandson, Samuel R. Brandon, both in 2008.

He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his loving companion, Freda Richko of Fairview; two daughters, Laura Jean James (Carl James) of Bradenton, Fla., Cynthia Ann Brandon (Tom) of Lake City; two sons, William Paul Kennedy Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., Paul LeRoy Kennedy of Fairview; two sisters, Maxine L. Denning (Tom) of Wattsburg, Joyce A. Simon (Spencer) of Girard; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours or services observed.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505 or to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 E. 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.

Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Cemetery.
