Richard "Rich" J. Szoszorek, Sr., age 77, of Millcreek, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born in Erie on April 20, 1936, a son of the late Frank and Harriett (Maciulewicz) Szoszorek.
Rich graduated from Academy High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army
as an X-ray technician. He worked at Erie Castings for 30 years, Knickerbocker Equipment for 17 years, and he worked part-time in retirement for Kubinski Business Machines.
He enjoyed hunting and golfing and walking his dog, Alex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Robert Szoszorek; and a sister, Viola Urda.
Rich is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Austin) Szoszorek; three sons, Rick Szoszorek, Jr. and his wife, Jacque, Brian Szoszorek, and Jeffrey Szoszorek, all of Erie; a brother, Raymond Szoszorek and his wife, Mary Kay, of Erie; a sister, Bernadette Gillespie and her husband, Harry, of Erie; and a brother-in-law, Don Benson and his wife, Joan, of Burlington, N.C.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
