Earl C. Lipphardt, age 78, of Fairview, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 14, 1935, the son of the late Harold and Harriett Kerr Lipphardt.

Earl graduated from Cuyahoga Heights High School, near Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as a salesman of welding supplies and safety equipment all of his career, and at Airgas in Erie for over 22 years. He owned H&R Block tax offices in Girard, Albion and Edinboro for 43 years. Earl was a member of the Girard Presbyterian Church and had been a past elder in the Presbytery. He enjoyed gardening, golf and bowling. He sponsored many bowling and golf teams through H&R Block, over the years. Earl was a member of the American Welding Society for many years and held many positions, including national treasurer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Lipphardt.

Earl is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie Balon Lipphardt; two daughters, Karen Milewski and her husband Ken of Fairview and Sharon Murri and her husband Keven of Bessemer City, N.C., and son, Earl C. Lipphardt Jr. and his wife Emily of Hamilton, N.J.; a sister, Nancy Ressler of Lakewood, Ohio; brothers: Michael Lipphardt and his wife Linda of Painesville, Ohio and Chad Lipphardt and his wife Dreama of Cleveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Laura, Alexandra, Nicole, Cassidy, Earl III and Kathryn; and two great-grandchildren: Jasmine and Keven, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, in Girard, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday at noon, in the All Faith Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earl C. Lipphardt Scholarship Fund of the American Welding Society, 8669 NW 36th. St. #130, Miami, FL 33166-6672. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
