Margaret J. Kroto Barr, age 82, of Erie, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at her residence in Erie, following a brief illness.
She was born in Erie on May 31, 1931, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Zmyslinski Krotozynski.
Margaret was a 1946 graduate of Villa Maria Academy, and following graduation, had been employed as a Secretary for a number of years for Dr. Edward J. Zimm. She was a full-time homemaker while her four boys were growing up, and later worked for the District Attorney's Office. While in high school, Margaret enjoyed playing basketball, and later volunteered as a Coach for the girl's basketball team at St. Luke's School. She enjoyed listening to classical music, watching operas, playing the piano, breaking out in song, fishing and using her excellent memory to recite poems she had learned while in school. Margaret spent her free time watching news programs, and was quick to engage others in spirited discussion about the state of national or world affairs. Her Cairn Terrier, Alfie, was a loyal companion and extra set of ears for many years. She had a keen interest of sports, and loved watching her favorite teams, especially Coach K's Duke Blue Devils, Notre Dame and the New York Yankees. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan, and loved keeping up on their activities and achievements. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lawrence V. Barr, in 2006.
She is survived by her sons, Lawrence V. Barr, II, of Tampa, Fla., Michael D. Barr and his wife Mary of Waterford, Robert F. Barr and his wife Schatzie of Tampa, Fla. and John L. Barr of Mechanicsburg, Pa., a sister, Carolyn McLaughlin and her husband Leonard of Erie, and a brother, Atty. Frank Kroto and his wife Doris of McKean. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lukas, Brenna and Clayton Barr of Waterford, Pa. and Rachael, Lydia and Bethany Barr of Tampa, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
