Cynthia M. "Sheptow" Perez, age 61, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, April 22, 2014. She was born on August 5, 1952 in Erie, Pa. She graduated from Mercyhurst Preparatory School in 1970. She attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. and received her degree in Dental Hygiene in 1972.
Cynthia lived a full and vibrant life, traveling, laughing, and enjoying the moment to its fullest. She lived on the Upper Westside of New York City for 20 years before returning to Erie. She loved "the city" passionately and actively sought out and enjoyed all it had to offer, particularly in the arts. She traveled to Europe, Hawaii, and frequently to Mexico to visit her "Mexican Family".
Upon her return to Erie she became involved in the family business, Sheptow's Dry Cleaners.
Cynthia loved nature, sun and hot weather – the hotter the better. She spent her summers at Sara Coyne Campground enjoying walks on the beach, bike rides through the "Enchanted Forest", the evening's sunsets and the company of the many camping friends she had made over the years.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Joan Sheptow and Dr. Juan Perez; her stepfather, Bernard Sheptow; her beloved grandparents, Sophie and Charles Swider, Jesus and Maria Perez; and her uncle, Dr. Charles Swider.
Survivors include her stepmother, Anna Perez of Pittsford, N.Y.; sisters, Janet Dubich (Rich) of North East, Pa., Michelle Perez of New Jersey, and Lorie Blust (Scott) of Arlington, Va.; her brothers, Barry Sheptow of Erie, Steve Sheptow (Julie) of Cambridge Springs, and Gregory Perez of Rochester, N.Y.; her nieces, Marcia Dubich of North East, Pa., Leona Dubich of Greenville, N.C.; her nephews, Ryan Sheptow and Ethan Sheptow, both of Erie and Clayton Dubich of Dunedin, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by her cherished lifelong circle of "girlfriends".
Cynthia's keen wit, infectious laugh, and "joie de vivre" will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 18th at 3 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Erie County or the Regional Cancer Center in Erie. Condolences and photos may be sent at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com
