Frederick C. Wachter Jr. Obituary

Frederick C. Wachter, Jr., age 77, of Fairview, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Erie on January 27, 1937, a son of the late Frederick C. and Lois (O'Hara) Wachter.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy, during the Suez Canal Crisis, as an apprentice Communications Technician. During his service, he had received secret, top secret and cryptic secret clearances from the government. He was the manager at Pan World Imports for 15 years, until his retirement.

In his youth, he had served as an altar boy at St. Patrick Church. Fred had a lifelong love of boats and the water, sailing in Argentina, Newfoundland, Scotland, and the Mediterranean. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Girard, and the Legion of Mary. He was most devoted to his Catholic faith, his family and his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother George Wachter in 2011.

Fred is survived by his beloved siblings, Joseph and Charles Wachter, both of Fairview, Richard Wachter, wife Mary Beth, of Erie, Anne Barr, husband James, of Fairview, a sister-in-law, Rebecca Wachter, of Erie, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 101 Olin Avenue, Girard. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Fred's family would like to thank the VA Hospital, the hospice nurses, especially Janet, his caregivers, including Laurie, Debbie, Heather and Katie, and Dr. Hutzel and Dr. Bridges and their staff, all angels in disguise. Fred's family would also like to thank his many friends at the Fairview Senior Citizens Center for their support.

Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 101 Olin Avenue, Girard, PA 16417, or the Carmelite Sisters, 510 East Gore Road, Erie, PA 16509. Condolences and photos may be sent at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.
