Catherine Teresa Vallimont Zapolski Obituary

Catherine Teresa Vallimont Zapolski, 71, of Erie, succumbed to her courageous, seven-year battle with cancer, Monday evening, April 28, 2014, at Manchester Commons. She was born in Erie on June 27, 1942, a daughter of the late Elmer L. and Eleanor C. Vallimont.

Catherine graduated in 1960 from St. Benedict's Academy. She was employed at St. Joseph's Orphanage and Erie Technological for several years. She later worked as a personal assistant and at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse. She was a member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, the Heavenly Dusters, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #515. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed baking, especially pizzelles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Vallimont.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Raymond Zapolski; three sons, Raymond Zapolski, Jr. (Susan), Martin Zapolski (Debbie), and Patrick Zapolski, all of Erie; one daughter, Mary Zapolski of Erie; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Christopher and Lindsay Zapolski, Heidi Gutowski, Christian Gutowski (Natalie), BreAnne Pudlick (Dan), and Kaitlin Zapolski; seven sisters, Sr. Judith Vallimont SSpS of Rome, Italy, Marjorie Vallimont of Erie, Sr. Laura (Dolores) Vallimont OSB, Joyce Silkworth of Erie, Elizabeth Mentz (Gerard) of Erie, Geraldine Stancliff (Leon, Sr.) of Erie, and Janice Zawadzki (Paul) of Westfield, Ind.; nine brothers, Donald Vallimont (Sarah) of Erie, Raymond Vallimont (Mary Ann) of Biloxi, Miss., Paul Vallimont (Joyce) of Erie, Walter Vallimont of Erie, Robert Vallimont (Lisa) of Erie, Patrick Vallimont (Jeanne) of Union City, Edward Vallimont (Kathy) of Pensacola, Fla., Phillip Vallimont of Erie, and Mark Vallimont of Erie; her brother-in-law, John Zapolski of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.(with Rosary recitation at 4:30 p.m.) and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., with members of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas acting as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
