Joseph Opalenik (Giuseppe Lucini), 55, of Erie, passed away on April 24, 2014, at his residence, from natural causes. He was born on June 30, 1958, in Reggio Calabria, Italy, son of Lola Opalenik Wasson of Floral City, Fla. and the late Peter E. Opalenik.
He was an over the road, long distance truck driver, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He loved swimming, being with his family, traveling, music, and dancing. He was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Opalenik.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Hinterberger) Lucini, of Waterford, his children, Ryan Opalenik of League City, Texas, Peno Lucini of Erie, Reynaldo Batista (Tamara) of Austin, Texas, Taunja Batista of San Diego, Calif., and Daniel Litz of Erie. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ava Lucini, Sheridan, Trey and Maximus Batista and two sisters, Laura Presor (John) of Erie and Gemma Walkiewicz (John) of Hernando, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
