Ernest Edward "Ernie" Spyker Obituary

Ernest "Ernie" Edward Spyker, age 82, of Harborcreek, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 27, 1931 in Tyrone, Pa., son of the late Ernest Edward and Mary Gearhart Spyker, Sr.

Following high school graduation, Ernie moved to Erie and attended the General Electric Apprentice program. Following graduation, he worked at Anson Tool & Gages as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1993, following 39 years of employment. Ernie was a life member of Perry Keystone Lodge #392, F & AM and Erepa Grotto; and a former member of the Siebenbuerger Club and East Erie Moose . He was also a member of the Wesleyville Baptist Church and participated in the Masonic Choir. Ernie enjoyed gardening, cooking, hunting, fishing and camping. He loved going to camp in Spartansburg and previously worked with the Harbor Creek Sport Boosters. He loved spending time with his family.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Hannah Spyker; three children, Cheryl Wolbert (Paul); Dave Spyker (Lisa); Dale Spyker; two brothers, Jon "Lynn" Spyker (Pat) of Huntingdon, Pa.; Larry Spyker of Clearwater, Fla., brother-in-law, Tom Ruf (Bev) of Placita, Fla.; grandchildren, Keith Wolbert, Holly Wolbert Allison (Justin), Katie Russo Spyker (Alan), John Spyker (Jassel); great-grandchildren, Caroline, Kaylin, and Mark and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Patricia Spyker, from Florida.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Friday at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Mark McCallion. Interment will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
