Gerald Jay A. Volgstadt II Obituary

Gerald "Jay" A. Volgstadt, II, age 41, of Millcreek Township, passed away of natural causes, at his residence on Sunday, May 4, 2014, after dealing with heart problems for many years. He was born on October 29, 1972, in Erie, the son of Gerald A. and Barbara L. Durst Volgstadt, Sr. of Millcreek Township.

Jay was a graduate of Bethel Christian School and Mercyhurst College, with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management and Finance.

He was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and was a member of the Local State Employees Union.

Jay attended First Alliance Church and participated in missionary trips to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Jay was interested in animals, bird watching, gardening, star gazing, and all nature. He loved fishing and being near the Lake Erie waters; this was a great joy in his life. He was artistic and accomplished at home interior design. Jay enjoyed spending time with his family and he was a person of helps and concern for others.

Besides his parents, Jay is survived by his sister, Roberta Lynn Volgstadt of Erie, many good friends, extended family, and his two beloved cats; Itzy and Shitzy.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Mark G. Volgstadt.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and are invited there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for the funerals service, conducted by the Rev. David Snyder. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511, or to the , 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505.
