Emily Maez Brandon, age 95, of Erie, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014.

She was born in Albuquerque, N.M., on August 17, 1918, a daughter of the late Antonio and Ignacita Toledo Maez.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish and enjoyed her family. Emily loved animals, and animals loved Emily. Emily lived her later years with her beloved Rod, on a farm, and it was the most magical place in the world. Emily loved to feed the wild animals. The deer, birds, turkey, chipmunks, and raccoons would gather, and Emily would watch in silence, and that made her happy. Emily was beautiful and kind and she had strong and loving heart. She lived a life of gratitude and gratefulness. Emily was loved and beloved, and most importantly, in the short time we are all allotted on this great earth, Emily lived it.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Brandon in 2010, a sister, Bersabe Sanchez and a brother, Horace Maez.

She is survived by a daughter, Therese Frietze (Lorenzo) of Erie, a son, Joseph Gurule (Monica) of Roseville, Minn., seven grandchildren, Veronica Shattenberg (Larry), Lori Lynn Nicosia (David), Diane Frietze, Paul Gurule, David Gurule, Jim Gurule (Cristy) and Mark Gurule (Angela), four great-grandchildren, Orry and Erik Shattenberg, Ina Frietze and Sadie Lynn Gurule, and several nieces and nephews.
