MSgt Burr W. Allen USMC (Ret.), 86, of North East, Pa., born January 20, 1928, died on May 17, at UPMC Hamot.

Burr was preceded in death by his parents Helen (Moyer) and Frank Louis Allen.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruth (Jones) of 60 years; one brother, Robert K. Allen (Glenda); children, Janet M. Pilewski (Joseph); LtCol (Rev.) Kathryn A. Allen USMCR; Terri L. Vale (past Sgt USMC); and Thomas W. Allen (Shelley); grandchildren, Christopher and Stephanie Vale; Joseph (Alicia), Sarah, Kathryn (Alex) Sayre and Timothy Pilewski; Erika, Danielle (Tim) Churchill and Matthew Allen; Thomas (Stacy) and Katelyn Musgrave; and great-grandchildren, Colton Churchill, Hadley and Griffin Musgrave.

MSgt Allen was a United States Marine for over 30 years, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." He belonged to the 6th, 1st, 2nd and 4th Marine Divisions. Burr was a life member of the Marine Corps League and VFW Post 4789. Also belonged to SeaBees, American Legion Post 105, Moose Lodge 2568, Teamster Local 397, China Marine Association and Park United Methodist Church. Burr was a retired truck driver with 4,000,000 accident-free miles for United Refining, Associated Transport, Hammermill, Jones, Wooster and Dana.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, Pa. Viewing will be Wednesday, May 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Interment will be in North East Cemetery, with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to VFW Post 4789 Scholarship Fund, Park United Methodist Church, or the Community Nursing Services of North East. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
