Mark E. Popovich, 44, of Erie, passed away suddenly, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at UPMC Hamot. He was born December 25, 1969, in Erie, son of Kay Van Natter Popovich of Fairview, Pa., and the late M. Gary Popovich.

He was a graduate of Fairview High School in 1988, and attended Edinboro University.

He formerly worked for Plastek and then was a wheelchair transport / EMT with Emergycare. He enjoyed drag racing, building models, computer games, and showing his 1986 El Camino at classic car shows. He was also a great Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Marcia Wienczkowski Popovich, a son, Michael T. Popovich of Erie, a brother, David M. Popovich of Fairview, Pa., a niece, Nicole Miller (Joseph) of Lakewood, N.Y., three aunts, Debra Staab of San Jose, Calif., Gail Michaels and Carol Zukowski (Robert) both of Oceanside, Calif., and a great-aunt, Donna Minor of Jamestown, N.Y., his mother and father-in-law Frank and Agnes Wienczkowski of Erie, three sisters-in-law, Rebecca Sienkiewicz of Harborcreek, Susan Massone (Anthony) and Janice Barcley (Todd), both of Erie. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew and two great-nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at The Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, Inc., 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503, on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery.
