Bill Toflinski Obituary

Bill Toflinski, 79 years, of Sun City Carolina Lakes, Indian Land, S.C., entered eternal life peacefully on May 24, 2014 with his family surrounding him after a long, courageous battle with Kennedy's Disease. Bill was a great motivator and teacher. He treated everyone with respect and dignity. His positive spirit, integrity, and determination to live his best life was an inspiration to everyone.

Bill was born in Erie, Pa., October 18, 1934, the son of Zygmundt Toflinski and Genevieve Olevnik Toflinski who, along with his wife, Patricia A. Toflinski, preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of Academy High School, class of 1952 and of Gannon University, graduating with a BS in accounting. Following his graduation from college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, spending time in Germany. Bill worked at the Hammermill Paper Company as a cost accountant for 4 years. He joined Lord Corporation in Erie, Pa., spending the majority of his career as the Controller of the Chemical Products Division, retiring after 32 years. During his retirement, he remained active by serving on the board of the Lord Credit Union for 10 years and was the Finance Officer for the Unitarian Universalist Church in Erie, Pa. for many years.

Bill enjoyed sports. He loved boating & water skiing, downhill skiing, bowling, jogging, bocce, and yoga. At work he participated in the basketball team and was a founding member of the softball team. He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a Pittsburgh Penguins fan.

Bill is survived by his life partner, Bonnie George; his daughters, Cheryl McKelvey of Monroe N.C. and Susan Gomolekoff & husband, Dana of Erie Pa.; a son, Timothy Toflinski & wife, Cindy of Woodville, Ohio; and his best friend, Joe Maziarz of Meadville Pa. He has seven grandchildren: Tim, Heather, Brian, Matt, Megan, Kelsey and Zach; nine great-grandchildren: Paige, Noah, Dominic, Brayden, Bradley, Devin, Cameron, Jaden and Madison living in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16502 on Monday, June 2nd from 4 p.m. until the service of remembrance at 6:45 p.m.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Saint Margaret's Episcopal Church, 8515 Rea Road, Waxhaw, N.C.
