Donald Walter Dunlap, 85, passed away at Onslow Memorial Hospital on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Donald was the husband of the late Shirley Jo Dunlap who passed away on February 14, 2014. Donald and Shirley Jo were happily married for 58 wonderful years.

Donald was the son of Walter C. Dunlap and Meridith Louise Hartigan.

A funeral service is planned Wednesday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville, with Rev. Jack Marshburn officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park where Donald will receive full military honors and Masonic Rites.

Donald was a loving husband, great provider, and caring father. Donald is survived by one son, Walter Dunlap and wife, Cynthia of Richlands; two daughters, Candy Foy and husband, Jeffery of Jacksonville, and Cheryl Dunlap Jonas of Waxhaw, N.C.; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Whitford of Erie, Pa. and Eva Kloszewski of North East, Pa.; six grandchildren, Donald W. Dunlap, Tabetha F. Lyon, Daniel W. Jonas, Josh Anhorn, Meghan Bass, and Katlyn Anhorn; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Donovan and Kamren.

M/sgt Donald Walter Dunlap retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years of serving in defense for his country. Donald was an active member of New River Masonic Lodge #736 and the Shriners. Donald loved to cook and spend lots of time with family and friends; one of Donald's greatest joys was helping others in many volunteer positions throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A visitation is planned for Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
