Roger J. Barton, age 67, of Erie, died peacefully at UPMC Hamot, surrounded by his loving family, early Sunday morning, June 1, 2014.
Roger was born in Conneautville, on October 13, 1946. He was the first son of James and Jean Bossard Barton. He worked at International Paper, until they closed. He then earned his Master's Degree from Edinboro University, and retired from the Erie School District, as a Reading Specialist.
He was a sailing enthusiast and past member of the Erie Yacht Club and Maennerchor Club. He enjoyed studying history, especially the Civil War, and was an avid reader. Roger also enjoyed fishing.
Besides his parents, Roger was preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Nancy Lundstrom Barton; son, Thomas (Leslie) Barton; daughter Celia (James) Portenier; and four grandchildren, Skylar and Caydan Barton and Nicholas and Lilly Portenier. He is further survived by two sisters, Susan Bratton of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Betsy Williams and her husband Rick of Erie; and two nieces Julie Bratton and Margaret Ogea.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a service there Thursday at 11 a.m., conducted by Msgr. Thomas Snyderwine. Memorials may be made to the
