Helen F. Gluvna, 81, formerly of Stewart Rd., Corry, Pa., died on Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, Pa., where she had been a resident.

She was born on January 21, 1933, in Oil City, Pa., a daughter of the late Adam and Anelia Sitkowski Kalamajka.

Helen was raised and educated in Oil City, where she was an eighth grade graduate of Assumption BVM School, and a 1950 honor graduate of Oil City High School. Following high school, she worked as a secretary for Oilwell Supply Company, until her marriage. After marriage, Helen moved to Corry and began employment at Aero Supply Company. While her husband served with the U.S. Navy, she returned to Oil City, and resided there until his discharge. Following his discharge, they came back to Corry and Helen worked for McInnes Steel Corporation for a few years, before starting her family. Her main priority then became raising and caring for her home and family. Helen later returned to McInnes Steel and worked as a secretary there for 25 years, before retiring on December 31, 1992.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church in Corry. Helen was deeply involved as a Catholic in her parish, serving as a CCD Teacher, and as a volunteer when needed. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ladies Guild, the Resurrection Choir and the church choir. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, attended Marriage Encounter with her husband in 1986, and made Cursillo #78. Helen was also active as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society - Corry Unit.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, baking and cooking. She also liked taking long walks and visits to the casino with her husband. Helen had loved taking care of the home she and her husband built in 1958.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Sophie Kalamajka and Anna Kalamajka in infancy; and six brothers, John, Joseph, Stanley, Frank, Walter and William Kalamajka.

Helen is survived by her husband Bernard F. "Bernie" Gluvna, whom she married on October 10, 1953, in Oil City, Pa.; a daughter, Tricia Messenger and her fiancé Randy Young of Union City, Pa.; two sons, Tim Gluvna of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Thomas Gluvna and his wife Beth of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and a sister Maryann Bronowski and her husband Sigmund of Rockford, Ill.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Dustin, Derek, Devin, Laura, Zachary, Austin, Trevor and Tyler Gluvna, and Sophia and Jessica Messenger; three great-grandchildren, Jax, Jonathan and Blaise; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 26 W. Pleasant St., Corry, Pa., at 10 a.m. Rev. Mark Hoffman will officiate.
