Frank J. Zarnecki Sr., 89, of Erie, and later in life became a resident of Florida, died following a brief illness, on January 18, 2014.

He was born in Erie, Pa., March 18, 1924, son of the late Frank and Katherine Paszek Zarnecki.

Frank was an enlisted WWII US Navy Destroyer (Pacific Fleet) Veteran.

Following the Navy, his career included Erie Castings, banking, ownership of new and used car dealerships, along with local tavern businesses, where he served as president of the Tavern Owners Association.

He was preceded in death by his son Frank J. Zarnecki Jr., his former wife Florence A. Zarnecki, and sisters, Dorothy Zamierowski, Frances Baniszewski, and Helen Lawrence.

Frank is survived by his daughter Cyndi Ellis, son-in-law Duane Ellis, grandsons Sean and Christian Ellis, daughter-in-law Melissa, great-granddaughters Stephanie, Samantha, Sabrina and Sydney Ellis, all of Northern Virginia, several nephews and nieces, and their families in Maryland, Erie, and the local areas. Frank was also survived by a sister Stella Sloan his eldest sister, who has since died on April 17, 2014.

Friends may attend a Funeral Mass at St. James Church this Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m., with full military honors following the Mass.
