Elwood Woody H. Dorn Obituary

Elwood "Woody" H. Dorn, 75, of Dorn Rd., Centerville, Pa., died on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the Corry Manor, Corry, Pa.

He was born on April 6, 1939, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Harold and Anita Lecker Dorn.

Woody was raised and educated in Spartansburg, Pa. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Erie, where he worked for Riley Stoker as a pipe fitter, and also owned his own beer distributor. Woody moved back to Spartansburg in 1970, where he owned his own paving company and later a dairy farm. In 1986, he began to work for Cross Paving (Russell Standard) until 1996. He opened Dorn's Archery Barn in Centerville in 1996, where he had worked until his passing.

He was a member of Mason Lodge #392. Woody enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, gardening, raising honey bees and his favorite dog, Abby.

In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his stepmother, Jessie Dorn, his first wife Lorraine Razey Dorn in 1984, and in 2009, his second wife, Bertha M. Curtis Dorn. He was also preceded by a son, Michael Dornhoefer and a sister, Susie Chezwick.

Woody is survived by two sons, Steve Dorn and his wife Doris of Centerville, Pa., and Matthew Dornhoefer of Spartansburg, Pa.; two stepsons, David Garfield and John Garfield, both of Girard, Pa., and two sisters, Eleanor Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Carol Hebets of Titusville, Pa.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Lisa Dornhoefer, Michelle Contrel and her husband Cliff, Kira, Elizabeth, Michael and William Dorn; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Valley View Mennonite Church, Routes 77 and 89, Spartansburg, Pa., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., and attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev. Robb Esh will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville, Pa.
