Gloria Martin, age 89, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014. She was born June 19, 1925, in Erie, the daughter of the late Carl J. Martin, Sr. and Martha Cabelof Martin.
A lifelong resident of Erie, Gloria was retired as an executive secretary from Erie's General Electric, where she began working at age 17. She was a member of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity. Gloria loved to travel, and she loved animals. She had her own sense of style, and was well known in all the fashionable dress shops in Erie.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl J. Martin, Jr. and Harvey J. Martin, who died on June 11, 2014, and her companion of fifty years, Robert G. Mesler.
Gloria is survived by a nephew, C. James Martin, III and his wife Linda of San Diego, Calif. She is also survived by two grandnieces; Noel Avilucea and her husband Augie and their children, Tyler and Chase, and Amanda Martin and her husband Isaac Munoz and their children, Bella and Lola.
Friends may call at the Martin residence, 2084 Andover Lane, on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and are invited to attend Funeral Services Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity, 251 E. Front St. Burial will be in St. John the Divine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church's Endowment Fund. Arrangements are by the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St.
