Margaret A. Vandercoy, 94, of N. Main St., Elgin, Pa., died on Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Corry Manor.
She was born on July 5, 1919, in Wattsburg, Pa., a daughter of the late James Ray and Lola Bisbe Proper.
As a young girl, Margaret moved to Elgin with her family and attended Corry area schools. During WWII, she worked for Raymond Manufacturing. She then married and moved to Corry for several years before moving back to Elgin. She has lived in Elgin since 1949. Margaret then stayed home to raise and care for her family.
Margaret was a member of Elgin United Methodist Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed golfing with her husband.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death on June 22, 2008, by her husband, Roger L. Vandercoy, whom she married on March 28, 1944 in Clymer, N.Y.; three sisters, Dorothy Babcock, Bernice Kimmy, and Shirley Troyer; five brothers, Lee, Clifford, Clarence, Milton, and Russell Proper; and a step-brother, Robert Smith.
Margaret is survived by two sons, Phillip L. Vandercoy and his wife, Nancy, of Elgin, Pa., and David E. Vandercoy and his wife, Sharon, of Valparaiso, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Holly, Amber, Jessyca, and Devin. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Elgin United Methodist Church, Main St., Elgin, Pa., on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 12 noon. Janet Sill, Lay Minister, will officiate.
Burial will be in Wattsburg Cemetery, Wattsburg, Pa.
