Dolores Marie Confer Bendig, age 84, passed away on July 5, 2014, at Brevellier Village, where she was surrounded by people who loved her in her last hours. She was born in Olean, N.Y., on November 19, 1929, the daughter of the late Genevieve Smith Confer and Ralph Confer.

Dolores graduated from Pleasantville High School and came to Erie to work at the General Electric Co. There she met her future husband, Ernie Bendig, but only after insisting on a formal introduction, which was arranged by their respective employers. Dolores and Ernie were united in marriage on August 12, 1950, and started to build a family and their home in Lawrence Park Township.

Dolores went back to work as a secretary for MSI, the construction company that built Iroquois Junior- Senior H.S. When the building was completed, she stayed on as high school secretary. In 1972, she left her employment there to become the Lawrence Park Township secretary. During her 17 years of service with the township, she assisted in the funding, planning and management of renovations, to the current Lawrence Park Township building.

She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist R.C. Church, where she had been a member of the parish action league, card party and Angel Food Ministries. Dolores was also involved in other community and volunteer organizations, including the Lawrence Park Garden Club and the Lawrence Park Historical Society.

Besides her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Ernest H. "Ernie"Bendig, Jr.; her stepmother, Ruth Confer; her mother and father-in-law: Ernest, Sr. and Geneva Bendig; her brothers-in-law: Albert (Beverly) Bendig and Donald (Carol) Bendig; her sister-in-law, Suzanne Bendig Hedges (William) and her stepsister, Marylou Mietus (Edward).

She will be greatly missed by her surviving family, which includes her three beloved daughters: Marilyn Kunzelman (Jeff), Janice Bendig-Tuznik and Lisa Pett (Stephen); her four grandchildren: Brenda Provident (Jeff), Tracy Rains (Chris), Adam Tuznik and Kaylie Tuznik (fiancé, Jason Mauro); her great-granddaughter, Hallie Jane Provident; her sister, Genevieve Jacqueline Moskalczyk; brother-in-law, Gerald Bendig, and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the extended and loving members of the Bendig and Confer families and the staff at Brevellier Village. Their kindness and devotion to Dolores and support of her family is deeply appreciated.
