Daniel L. Hedlund, O.D., age 60, of Millcreek, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his residence, surrounded by family. He was born in Erie on March 5, 1954, a son of the late Harold F. Hedlund and Margaret (Hedlund) Sinclair.

Dan graduated from McDowell High School, Mercyhurst College, and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He played on the golf teams for both McDowell and Mercyhurst College, and continued to enjoy playing golf. He served three years in the U.S. Army as an optometrist. Dr. Hedlund then opened his own practice, Family Eye Care at 1344 West 38th Street. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and the Northwest Optometric Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, David.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen (Brence) Hedlund; his daughters, Michelle Hedlund and Mary Ann Hedlund, both of Erie, and his brother Eric Hedlund, wife Cindy and their children, Sarah (Karasack), Matt and Mike, of Erie.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Richard K. Schultz, officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
