Betty L. Bielak, age 92, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Golden Living Center - Western Reserve. She was born in Uniontown, Pa., on September 9, 1921, daughter of the late Jay and Louise Pinard Armstrong.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1979, and one brother, Robert Armstrong, killed in action during WWII.

Betty was a longtime member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, where she was an Elder and Deacon. She taught Sunday school for over 20 years and was a preschool teacher in the church. She worked for Lord Corporation, Sontheimer's Bakery, and St. Luke's Church. Betty was very active with the Republican Women's Committee, and enjoyed reading, golfing, and playing cards, especially pinochle.

She is survived by her nephew, Michael (Frances) Bielak of North Ridgeville, Ohio; great-niece, Karen Bielak of Chicago, Illinois; great-nephew, Christopher Bielak of Columbia, Missouri, and many, many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 3520 Perry St., Erie, PA 16504. Interment will take place in Erie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.
