Joyce Carol Neckel Baran, age 84, of Harborcreek, died Friday, June 27, 2014. She was born in Erie on November 18, 1929, the daughter of the late Paul and Harriet Harding Neckel.

Joyce was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she had served on Church Council, was active on several committees and the Pricilla Circle. She was a past president, charter, and life member of American Legion Post # 771, East Erie Auxiliary, and past president of Penn School PTA. She worked with Moore Research Company, doing in-store demonstrations, prior to her retirement. Joyce had previously worked at the former Union Bank. She was an avid reader and an excellent seamstress.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Baran; a daughter, Patricia F. Baran Rivers; a brother, Paul M. Neckel; and two sisters, Shirley J. Neckel Cohick and Judith F. Neckel Schickling.

Joyce is survived by three daughters, Dina Gordon Lanagan (Dennis) of Meadville, Marion Benton of Harborcreek, Nani Baran (partner, Jill Bamburg) of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; one son, Edwin P. Baran (Jaylene) of Corry; sister-in-law, Marge Neckel; twelve grandchildren, Jeff and Ryan Benek, Aleta and Jamaal Barnett; Matt, Chris and Graham Baran-Mickel, Parris Warner, Malique Mitchell, Gabriel, Lavender and Samson Baran; five great-grandchildren, Tim and Krysten Zavarella, Sean and Kylie Benck and Madison Wheeler; and two great-great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and McKenzie Zavarella.

Friends may call on Sunday, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., and are invited to attend the Funeral Service Monday, at 10 a.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2025 Eastern Ave. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 719 Indiana Drive, Erie, PA 16505.
