Genevieve Iavarone, of Millcreek, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Golden Living Western Reserve.
She was born in Erie, the daughter of the late Dominick and Asunta Vendetti DiRienzo.
Genevieve graduated from Millcreek High School. Over her career, Genevieve worked at Sears, Commercial Credit, as a social worker at the Public Assistance Office, and a self-employed, licensed massage therapist.
She loved cats and rescued numerous strays, and brought them into her home as pets. She also enjoyed the beach, antiques, antique malls, flea markets, listening to music, and was an accomplished seamstress.
In addition to her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Joseph Iavarone; and her niece and goddaughter, Jennifer Gray Vogt.
Genevieve is survived by her two sons, Joseph and Steven Iavarone, both of Millcreek; one sister, Theresa DiRienzo (Donald Greenlee) of Erie; and three brothers, Dominick A. DiRienzo of Erie, Nicholas (Irene) DiRienzo of Erie, and Arthur DiRenzo of Massachusetts. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and her lifelong friends, Genny and Sally.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julia Church, 3750 West Lake Road, Erie, on Tuesday, July 15th, at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
