Geraldine M. (Spinks) Yochim

Geraldine M. (Spinks) Yochim, age 91, of Erie, died at the home of her daughters, Barbara Yochim and MaryEllen Richards on Friday, August 8, 2014.

She was the daughter of the late Howard and Rena Heintz Spinks. In her early years she worked for Loblaw's and then moving on to the Boston Store where she worked for 22 years in the candy department. After leaving the Boston Store she went to work for Mason Department Store which was bought out by Value City where she worked for 11 years before retiring to spend time with her husband, Harold Yochim and her family.

She belonged to the Zukor Club Women's Auxiliary. Geraldine also spent a lot of time working on her ceramics, which she shared with her family and playing cards till all hours of the night with her brothers and sister. She was one of the founding members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Rena; her husband of 59 ½ years, Harold J. Yochim; four brothers, Edward Spinks and his wife, Joan, Howard Spinks and his wife, Palmina, her twin brother, Gerald Spinks and his wife, Rosemary, James Spinks and his wife, Donna and Paul Spinks; sister, Frances Conyngham and her husband, Thomas.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Spinks and Marge Krysiak; daughters, Judith Yochim Palmer and her husband, Bruce, of Saegertown, Pa., Barbara Yochim and MaryEllen Yochim Richards and her husband, Douglas, of Erie; nine grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, a great-great-great-grandson, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St. on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
